Laboratories conducting analyses for compliance purposes are required to be accredited by the Washington Department of Ecology (DOE) and regularly demonstrate their qualifications and performance. Current Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and Quality Assurance Manuals are two of the main requirements laboratories need to meet to become and remain accredited.

Our “How to write SOPs and QA Manuals for Accredited Laboratories” workshop explains what components your SOPs should address to meet the overall requirements for laboratory accreditation with the Washington Department of Ecology. You will learn how to best describe and express procedures, who to involve in the SOP development process, and where to locate the information required for sections such a chemical storage requirements, safety, and waste management, etc. After we explore the general layout and expectations of these documents we will develop an SOP specific for one analysis and help you tailor it to your organization’s process.

In addition, we will explain and discuss the purpose of a Quality Assurance (QA) Manual and what information it should include. Together we will explore how you can develop and format the QA Manual to reflect your QA program and be compliant with the laboratory accreditation requirements.
